Duck Confit Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Golden, crispy grilled sandwiches filled with tender duck confit and melted cheese. The ultimate comfort food.
Ingredients
Main ingredients:
| 1 leg | Duck leg confit, shredded |
| 4 slices | Sourdough or country bread slices |
| 100 g | Cheese (Comté, Gruyère, or Emmental) |
| 1 tbsp | Duck fat or butter |
| 2 tbsp | Caramelized onions |
| 1 tsp | Dijon mustard (optional) |
| To taste | Black pepper |
Preparation
1. Prepare the filling
- Shred the duck leg confit and warm it briefly in a pan to release its flavor.
- Add a small spoon of duck fat if needed.
- Mix in the caramelized onions for sweetness and depth.
2. Assemble the sandwich
- Lightly spread Dijon mustard on two slices of bread (optional).
- Layer with cheese, duck confit mixture, and more cheese on top.
- Close with the remaining bread slices.
3. Grill until golden
- Heat a pan over medium-low heat with duck fat or butter.
- Grill sandwiches 3–4 minutes per side, pressing gently, until the bread is crisp and the cheese has melted.
- Reduce heat if it browns too quickly.
4. Slice and serve
- Let rest 1–2 minutes before cutting diagonally.
- Sprinkle with a touch of black pepper or fresh herbs if desired.
5. Chef’s note
Perfect with a small green salad, pickles, or even sweet potato fries.
A glass of red Bordeaux or amber beer complements the richness beautifully.
